I did not know. Just discovered. TARAB is an Arabic word for musically induced ecstacy.

  1. Meaning of tarab sounds really very heartening, but i have alternate view too. Tarab seems to be a modified form of hindi urdu term taraph ( daayi taraph… baayin taraph) as these sympathetic strings of sitar sarod and sarangi are located by a ‘side’ . These terms were mostly written arabic persian urdu alphabets by the ustads. In arabic there was no substitute for p thus sanskrit aap- water became aab in arabic to give popular word gulaab , a rose. Similarly taraph became tarap and later tarab or tarab ke taar from taraph ke taar.
