Sitar Guru was published in February 2004 by Navras Records, UK. It was the first user-friendly audio-visual interactive application, conceptualized by Pt. Arvind Parikh to illustrate various aspects of sitar training and performance.
This CD-ROM features technical guidance on how to wear a mizrab, the posture, and the grip etc. It offers alankars for beginners, paltas in raga Yaman, explanation about the four sections of a sitar recital, alap – jod – bandish – jhala, and the demonstration of tan typologies.
The CD includes text files explaining the origin of the sitar, its evolution, and also provides guidance on not only buying a new instrument but also caring and respecting for it. Additionally, it covers basic knowledge about raga-sangeet, dimensions of improvisation, the concept of a gharana in Hindustani classical music, different gharanas of sitar, and information about the Etawah-Imdadkhani-Vilayatkhani lineage
