What’s the role of gharana in modern times especially when an artist is so much exposed to the extreme mixture of all kinds of music and how to keep the track of once own gharanedar talim when audience’s demand is different or more extrovert?

I would like to respond to the issue restricting my observation to situation in our
Gharana. Remember what Khansaheb said when I was playing a dhun of
Ravishankerji. He said jo pasand aye wo le lo per is cheese ko apne rang me rang do.
As you are referring to audiences, it is assumed that the musician is a concert level
performer. It is not necessary to cater to the every demand of the audience if you have
to compromise your talim. One can always find ways and means to satisfy the
audience with speed/intelligent interplay with tabla etc. Thus gharanas have a very
valuable role to play.
