Q32

Pranam Guruji, I want to know what's a difference between Raga Purvi and Raga Puriya Dhanashree?

Sarang- 1) both these raaga belong to so called Purvi That 2)according to some,
there are 13 fairly known raags in this That,Purvi being the That raag. 3) this
leaves 12 raags, out of which, 4 are achhop raags which are – Tanki, Malvi,
Triveni and Deepak. 4) balance 8 raags can be structured into 4 pairs each
having 2 raags with similar notes. These are1) Reva/Bhibhas2)Shree/Jaitshree- 3)Gauri/Puria dhanasri4) Paraj / Basant.
1) Main difference between Purvi and P. Dhanashri is the use of Sudha
Madhyam in Purvi. 2)Aroh in both is almost the same except P. Dhanashri does
not move dha-ni- sa but dha- ni- re-sa 3) ni- re- ni-dha- ni with both starting and
ending ni , in lower octave , is the catch phrase in P. Dhanashri. 4) use of
Suddha Madhyam in Purvi can be 1)pa- ma(tivra)-ga- ma- ga or 2) pa- ma (
tivra)- ga- ma- re- ga or 3) pa- ma ( tivra) ga- ma – re- ma- ga. Some take the
liberty of using pa- ma ( tivra) ma- ga.
Essentially Purvi moves around gandhar while P. Dhanashri moves around

Correction: Shree pairs with Gauri and P. Dhanashri pairs with Jaitshree
